In a recent video, a British Sikh MP can be seen slamming PM Boris Johnson over his remarks on Muslim Women wearing Burqa as bank robbers & letter boxes made in the past.
The Sikh MP identified as Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi, is a Labor MP from Slough and is the first turban wearing member in the House of Commons. In his passionate speech, he asked Johnson to apologize for his past comments equating burqa-clad Muslim women with “bank robbers” and “letterboxes” in a British newspaper column in 2018.
“If I decide to wear a turban or you decide to wear a cross, or he decides to wear a kippah or a skullcap, or she decides to wear a hijab or burqa, does that mean that it is an open season for members of this House to make derogatory and divisive remarks about our appearance?” he said attacking Johnson.
“For those of us, who from a young age have had to endure and face up to being called names such as towel head or Taliban or coming from bongo bongo land, we can appreciate the hurt and pain felt by already vulnerable Muslim women when they are described as looking like bank robbers and letterboxes,” the Indian-origin lawmaker remarked.
Dhesi also pointed out the Islamophobia present in the Conservative party and asked Johnson to set up inquiry on that.
If you have ever experienced racism or discrimination, you can appreciate full well the hurt and pain felt by Muslim women, who were singled out by this divisive Prime Minister. It’s high time he apologised for his derogatory and racist remarks! 2/2 pic.twitter.com/R3goWBTh1s

“Rather than hide behind the sham and whitewash investigations, when will the Prime Minister finally apologise for his derogatory and racist remarks?…Racist remarks which have led to a spike in hate crime. Given the increasing prevalence of such incidents within his party, when will the Prime Minister finally order an inquiry into Islamophobia within the Conservative Party?” he said.
Whole House applauded him for his passionate and fierce speech.
In response, Boris Johnson didn’t apologize rather tried to turn the debate by accusing Labor party for anti-semitism. Boris also tried to justify his cabinet as more diversified one. He cited his Muslim ancestry & his wife’s Sikh ancestry.
The video of Tanmanjeet went viral overnight and people started praising his fierce speech and his stands towards minorities.
“We need such politicians in our country, where they can stand with truth no matter who is in opposition. Everyone is equal under law and men like Johnson should apologize as he is the leader of a nation”- A user wrote.
